Every month, Ward Theaters' Titan XC shows fan favorite movies for the Hana Hou Picture Show- http://www.consolidatedtheatres.com/cinema/content/hanahou.asp Monday's movie was Ferris Bueller's Day Off. So I decided to stop and smell the flowers. Don't tell my boss, but I called in sick on Monday (No clammy hands though). I called my friend (appropriately named Cameron) and we rented this car. It isn't a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California but it was red, and convertible (Thank you to Enterprise Rent-A-Car). First stop, we went to the Honolulu Academy Of Arts like Ferris would do. Unfortunately, HAA and its affiliated museum (the Contemporary Art Museum) are closed on Mondays. We walked into the Academy Art Center across the street and there was a cool graffiti display up. They were closed as well, but the security guard was nice enough to let us check out the graffiti displays.
We still wanted to see a museum, so we decided to go to the Arizona Memorial. It was the day after the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 so it seemed like a good place to visit. We drove out to the Pearl City area and there was a bunch of police officers blocking the entrance of the memorial. i guess this was closed too. It was getting close to lunchtime so we figured we should go look for a place to eat. We drove back to town and decided to go to 12th Avenue Grill. I wanted to go someplace decent (not snooty, but someplace nice). We walked into the restaurant but the hostess politely told us they were closed and will open for dinner service only. Shucks. Eventually, we ended up at Kincaids. The food was pretty good, service was good too. Not snooty at all, Abe Froman would've been treated well here. My friend really wanted to buy something to commemorate the day. We went to Toys R Us, MechaHawaii, Toys N Joys, and Collectors Maniacs, to look for something 80's to get. Something like a Generation 1 Transformer but nothing caught his eye. We wound up walking around the Ward shops and went into Sports Authority. Since there weren't baseball games, we couldn't catch any foul balls and possibly break our thumbs. We decided to buy baseballs from Sports Authority to remember the day instead. After that, I drove the convertible to pick up my girlfriend, and we went to Ward Theaters to watch the movie. I must say, it is awesome watching a movie that you love on the big screen again. It was exciting and memorable, and fun. Every month, Ward will be doing this. Next month, they will be doing two special showings. They are planning to show Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and one of the following: Either Gremlins, Ghostbusters, Aliens, or Nightmare on Elm Street. It was a good day off. I needed that day to stop and smell the flowers. |
